Last Thursday marked the last day of term at Sixth Form and this was spent doing sporting activities followed by a BBQ in the glorious sunshine which seems to have disappeared for today, unfortunately. Anyway, it was a great way to end the school year after 10 months of hard work and stress but also a hell of a good time!
It didn't actually occur to me that Year 12 is now over until I read a few statuses on Facebook as friends bid farewell to it and I felt a huge sense of achievement in myself. Obviously with my background of not attending high school it was touch and go at the start of college as to whether it would work for me or not but it did and boy I do love it. Other people around me probably point it out most, the fact that wow, I survived college and fitted into the environment - it's a miracle haha!
We all received our end of year reports on Wednesday and thankfully all of mine were positive and it would seem that I am a pleasant person to teach which is always nice to know! I think my favourite piece from the whole report is my media teacher who said ''Heidi has been a ray of sunny joy to teach'' - how lovely! On the same day as this, the deputy head asked whether I would participate in the college prospectus next year by having a student profile within it. He said it is mainly due to my different background as I probably wouldn't of stayed, similar to high school, if it was a horrible environment to be a part of - which it isn't in the slightest.
I am what you would call a stereotypical 'geek' I guess... I try my best, work hard and really enjoy my three subjects; English Language and Literature, Media Studies and Photography. Media is my favourite subject and I hope to carry it on through to University resulting in a degree as a career in the field of this is something that I would love to be able to do in the future. I have so far been to the University of East Anglia's open day as I, strange as it seems to some, would prefer to stay at home whilst studying and I was extremely impressed with what it had to offer - the environment and subject facilities are fantastic (fingers crossed I can get a place!)
Finally, I should mention the social life that I seem to have gained and the wonderful friends that I have met. People such as Rachel and Rebecca are two girls who I have become close to since starting college, as well as Charlotte and although I knew her before, we are now closer than ever. I love them all! :-)
If you are still unsure whether college/sixth form is for you or not then I would definitely say just go for it, it really is a fabulous place to be and it has made me realise what I want in the future as well as other things that I missed out on at high school.
Well that is my education related post out of the way. I hope you enjoyed reading about my first year experience even though it may have been slightly dull in places, thank you!
