Twitter's On Top!

It seems that a minority of people believe that social networking sites are dangerous places to spend your time on, however most of these are not users of the sites themselves. I think that if the websites such as Facebook and Twitter are used safely then there is absolutely nothing wrong with what they provide for its users, for example Twitter, has given me a lot in regards of my role-model Amanda Holden. There is no way on earth that this lady would know of my existence if it wasn't for Twitter and the same goes for many other fans of different celebrities.

The website is perfect for fans to socialise with their favoured others in the media such as myself with Amanda. I have now received over 150 tweets and direct messages from the star of which I will forever be grateful for, a few years ago it was almost regarded impossible for fans to be able to have ordinary conversations with those that inspire them however Twitter has changed that more recently.

Back in the Summer of 2011, Amanda was on the Paul 'O Grady Live show and followers of the TV show's Twitter account were able to send in questions to ask her, which of course a few of us did. I didn't believe in a hundred years that my question would actually be picked but to my utter surprise (and shock!) it was, at the time I was extremely pleased and awaited Amanda's answer. This is the point where the story gets exciting, Paul said 'from Heidi' and Amanda replied 'Heidi... Heidi Jackson?' you can probably imagine what my reaction to this was like but just in case you can't - I screamed, cried and nearly fainted. My idol, Amanda Holden, knew who I was and had just said my name on live television. Wow and all thanks to Twitter of course, for allowing me to interact with Amanda resulting in her knowing that little old me existed! Video clip below...

Another amazing moment that would never have been possible is receiving a Britain's Got Talent sign from the judge of the show, Amanda again of course. I shall try and explain exactly what this is although I imagine that the image beside will do this just fine! Basically, a couple of years ago the official Britain's Got Talent Twitter page got acts and judges from the show to hold a piece of paper with a message/twitter username of the person who had requested one and then photographed it, before tweeting it to the person. These were obviously heavily requested and so not everybody that asked for a sign got one however, on the day I was asking, the fellow Holdenites seemed to join in by asking them for a sign from Amanda but not for themselves, for me (something I am extremely grateful for!). The BGT guy obviously saw the mass of tweets and managed to catch Amanda during the break of one of the live shows to create the sign for me, I treasure this picture highly - as you can imagine!

So, they are just two reasons why I adore Twitter as much as I do! I've been a member of the site for a good few years now and was obsessed with it way before the whole world hyped it up no end, something that I'm proud to tell new Twitter uses of. One last thing which is good to mention in this post is that I have met some great people through the social networking site, most of which are fans of Amanda too (Holdenites) and in turn these people plus the website have allowed me some fantastic experiences - such as meeting Amanda last Summer, something that I will never forget for as long as I live.

Thanks, Twitter!
